,
We have been blessed with having an opportunity to train many of the best beach/indoor players in Missouri, Kansas and Arkansas for the last several years.
SAND VOLLEYBALL
While my wife and I have trained several adult men/women in sand volleyball the last decade, sand doubles for juniors has just taken hold in 2016 here in the midwest. Since 2014 we have taken on multiple doubles teams with a team finishing as high as third place national finish prior to 2017 and have since had national champions.
In the winter of 2016-2017 one of the girls, Allison Coens, that we had been training for 3 years at the time committed to LSU to become the first girl from MO/KS to go to college on a beach only scholarship where she proceeded to go 23-5 as a freshman on a team that made it to a 3rd place finish in NCAA DI Beach Nationals. We have had a few girls train on our courts in previous years that played beach in college, but it was on an indoor scholarship and they were a dual roster athlete. In large part due to her success our demand blew up. The spring of 2017 we put in a second court and that summer we trained 30 girls on our two courts. We had 10 teams that we worked with qualify for USAV Nationals in Siesta Key in 2017 and several for American Beach Tour National Championships as well as AAU JO's.
The 2017 Summer Beach season was highlighted with 12U National Champs & 14U Runners up (out of over 120 teams) for USAV Nationals in Siesta Key, FL and a 16U runner up finish at American Beach Tour in Tavares, FL and a myriad of other big finishes in showcase events across the country.
2017 USAV Nationals in Siesta Key, FL
We coached 7 teams in Florida and personally have worked with 16 girls that qualified that we had worked with that year with 6/7 that we coached finishing in the gold flight on day three. *1 of the other 3 teams we had worked with also made it to Gold flight and another won a big match on main court in the finals of silver bracket.

2017 American Beach Tour Nationals in Tavares, FL
We were not able to make the trip to Tavares for this event, but several of the girls we have trained performed well despite many of the them playing several straight days in the heat between Siesta and Tavares.
13U Heidi Devers/Izzy Day 3rd Place (combined 12/13U even though they qualified for 12U)
16U Courtney Jackson/Alyssa Keller 2nd Place
16U Bridget Devers/Caroline Zabroske 3rd Place
16U Kyla Shappell/Maddison Bishop 5th Place

In 2018 we spent two weeks in July with several of our top girls in Hermosa Beach California for BVCA and AAU National Championships, with our top finish being 3rd Place in the AAU 10U for the Scherfenberg sisters (10& 8) and a 5th place with Courtney Jackson (15's) 2021 pairing with Allison Coens 2018 in the 18U's. While our focus is on the beach, we have had the opportunity to work with many top indoor girls over the years as well doing plyometric jump training in the sand and helping them with their vertical and conditioning. The ball control drills in the wind serves as an advantage as well. We have worked with a number of girls over the years that have gone on to play indoor at the DI & DII collegiate level, but will just list a couple of girls below that have been out 60+ sessions over the years...Cheyanne would actually be well over 100, but who is counting:).
Cheyanne Lyons- DI Northern Colorado 2013 & 2014 Seasons ~DII UCM 2015 & 2016 Seasons
Cheyanne started training with us as a 10 year old girl when I was the club director for a small (7 team) indoor volleyball club in the early 2000's. She played with us a couple of years until I encouraged her dad to take her to a bigger indoor club that would practice more and go to bigger tournaments. She did that and enjoyed a lot of success. Even though I no longer worked with her indoor she continued to come out to train in our sand court throughout her high school and collegiate career for plyometric jump training and conditioning.
Audriana Fitzmorris- Stanford 2016- 2020 *Currently playing professional overseas
Audriana started coming out after her sophomore year of high school at Saint James Academy and has come out every summer since when she has been in town. By no means can we take any credit for Audriana's success, but it does speak volumes that she continues to come out in the summer when she is in town as she sees the value of training in the sand. She even made it last the summer of 2017 fresh of of earning All-American honors as a true freshman as an integral part of Stanford's National Championship team. She received All-American honors again in 2017 as Stanford fell short losing .a tough match to Florida in the National Semi-finals at the Sprint Center. She has popped into a few lessons in the summers while at Stanford and even after graduation in preparing to play professionally overseas.
Endorsement from Audriana:
I have been going to see Coach Scherf for sand Plyos and conditioning sessions since my early years in high school and I cannot express enough how essential they have been in my training and the preparation of my body to compete through four years of division I college athletics, with three of those years winning a National Championship. While I didn’t play beach volleyball, training in the sand has helped my explosiveness and vertical for indoor volleyball and the overall strengthening and stabilization of key joints. Sand plyos are a great way to help elevate your game and protect your body from injuries regardless if you play indoor volleyball, beach volleyball, or any other sport!
